The guns blazing committee members. The damage they can cause

It doesn’t matter what building it is, it’s usually one of the same few common reasons why owners join a strata committee, either they are not happy with the decisions being made on their behalf or they hate the building manager or strata manager. As Grays Rescue Building Management are focused on buildings that require more forensic and investigative building management, we work in the thick end of these buildings.

The most interesting observation of residents that join strata committees who go in all guns blazing when they join a committee is they are often one – year members and often leave a trail of destruction from their outbursts, demands and “they know better” approach.

In the majority of cases veteran Strata Managers and Building Managers have these one termers measure and know how to handle them. However often the damage is done and the good work done by responsible committee members and their support team can be undone or tarnished.

So what does it takes to be a good Strata Committee representative? I am asked this often and my answer is simple; you need to understand your accountability to your owners and insurer and a good strata committee representative is measured.
