Building Management processes – Fire Penetration Schedule

With long overdue pressure on building management and fire contractors to achieve passive fire compliance, there are now consequences for the building management industry to professionally manage and maintain the documentation related to Fire Resistance Level (FRL).

The passive fire industry’s overhaul has clearly raised the standards of AFSS and its compliance responsibilities, the building management industry has no place to hide when it comes to fire related documentation management.

One of the often-overlooked responsibilities of building management documentation is to complete and maintain a fire penetration schedule for each building. Yes, it is a licensed passive fire certifiers responsibility to sign off on fire penetration schedules, however, it is the building managers responsibility to maintain changes to schedules as they occur.

Fire penetration schedules are not a compliance requirement tick off for auditing, they are a passive fire reference point. Each penetration makes up part of your buildings fire stopping, identification of the buildings fire stopping system and FRL.

The new fire industry compliances don’t just fall on passive fire certifiers, they call on the building management industry to step up and understand the importance of education for all onsite building management staff on the importance of FRL and provide a greater understanding of maintaining this now regulated documentation.
Ongoing AFSS education and development makes for leading industry building management.
