Would I be happy for my actions to be open to public scrutiny?

Working within the Strata Industry is not always dealing with angry residents, sometimes it provides us with much entertainment.

From residents installing non waterproofed water fountains in living rooms that leak through a slab, or even residents demanding for their parking space to be industrially cleaned because someone walked through it leaving a dirty footprint.

The hilarity of what we deal with aside, it’s how we as industry professionals act and respond, not the residents that attracts the most scrutiny.

Something that stays with me, is advice a strata manager once gave to me, and that is to ask myself always “Would I be happy for my actions to be open to public scrutiny”.

This was great advice, as at the time I was being a little unjust to a resident with a response I would not have provided to a resident that I had a better relationship with.

Ever since this early advice, this strata manager remains the voice inside my head leading me to remain the best ethical self I can be.
